Reading matter

I am currently getting Peak Performance ("the research newsletter on stamina, strength and fitness" - check it out on the interet if you want to know more). It was on offer for a few months. I have issues 270 to 273 and will get a few more before my trial period runs out. I was wondering if anyone wanted to look at them before I stick them in the recycling bin? Anyone interested?

I mentioned this to Steve H and he said it would be a good idea to have somewhere that we can use as a sort of club library - for those whose obsession runs beyond merely running. (I have a few running books I'd be happy to loan to the library if we found some way of setting one up.) What does anyone else think?

Yes I think it's a great idea in theory. I subscribe to Runners World and am happy to donate those when I've read them

Ah, I just subscribed to RW. Maybe we should all compare notes on what we subscribe to, or want to subscribe to, and then find a way of sharing costs?

OK. Peak Performance issue 270 please...will be at training next Tues (5k time trial).

I'm not sure we can establish a 'physical' library as such, unless the Keswick library were willing to help us. However I dont see why we can't facilitate the swapping of running literature.

If anyone is interested, they're welcome to borrow...

'Fifty Years Running -A History of the Mountain Trial' LDMTA, 2002.

'Off Road Running' -Sarah Rowell,
Crowood Press, 2002.

'Running for Fitness' -Seb Coe, Peter Coe. Pavilion Books, 1983.

and DVDs...

'2000 English Fell Running Championships' (PWT Productions)

'Three Peaks Race 2008' (PWT Productions)

'2008 English Fell Running Championships' (PWT Productions)

You shouldn't have time to read these mags. Once you have read RW for a year they start repeating the articles.I will stick to looking at the pictures in The Fellrunner.

Only joking, it's a good idea - I have a copy of 'Judith's Run' if anyone want to borrow it.

Steve, I'm off skiing from 6-14 March. Can you wait until I get back for Peak Performance #270? On the more general issue, I will give some thought to how we can make this work. We could post a list of who's got what books etc on Facebook or some other social networking site (the KAC blog?), and then leave individuals to contact each other when they want to borrow things. Let's think on.

Have also got a couple of novels by Tom McNab, The Fast Men and Flanagan's Run. Reading about a foot race across The States is surely more interesting than reading yet another shoe review in RW.
Judith's Run is no longer available and is about the last runner to die in a fell race ... called Judith. It is an account of her husband's BGR in her memory.

"Stud marks on the summits" makes an interesting read - Duncan and Harry get a good write up. More like a text book than todays journalistic reads.

It's not quite fell running - but the "white spider" by Heinrich Harrer is an outstanding read.
