Another Black Combe Recce

I'm hoping to have another run round the Black Combe race route this Sunday if anyone is up for a run. I cant get away from work until 12 but I hope to be there by 1:30. I can give some lifts if anyone can get to Buttermere for 12.

Good idea, will wait and see if forecast improves -it's somewhat inclement at present; chance of frequent snow showers and severe gales. Could probably do without hypothermia at the minute, though this seems a little daft as the sun beams down outside now :)

How did the recce go ?
Planning the route on my OS back home in Norfolk, it looks as though it might be lacking any decent paths. Are there any helpful points that you could pass on.

There is more running on path than the OS would indicate, particularly between checkpoints 2 and 3 (www.bcrunners.org.uk/blackcombemap)
As for tips, the best thing a reccce of the course does is prepare you for the long, steep climb to checkpoint 6, and comming off the summit at this point a more SSW rather than W beeline for the descent path/track is probably fastest.
Some debate about which side of the beck to run on when the descent steepens at the end. Not much in it, but I can personally vouch for the presence of a particularly soggy bog that you'd be advised to leap if you intend to cross the stream lower down.
www.lakesrunner.com is selling a race map/hints for the course in the style of those allready published for other lakes races.
