Brampton Carlisle 10

Does anyone want to share a lift for this Saturday's Brampton Carlisle 10?

The race starts at 12.30pm from William Howard School in Brampton. Buses run from the finish at Sands Centre in Carlisle to the start between 10.30am – 11.15am (£2.50 on day). So I guess I would be looking to leave Keswick at around 9.30am, to leave plenty of time for parking and getting on one of the buses.

If you want a lift, email me (q.merritt@tiscali.co.uk) or call me (017687 72730).

Quentin

PS: There is a 'baggage bus' to bring gear back from Brampton to Carlisle.

Hi Quentin
I was really hoping to do this race, but I managed to hurt my achilles again after the time trial last week! So fed up about it. I haven't ran since Thursday as I'm trying to get it better. I don't think it will be right by Saturday :(
Good luck if I don't see you though x

Quentin -count me in for the trip to Carlisle on Saturday (if your car's not full yet). Fingers crossed this weather eases up and we get a more quiet day.

Dianne -sorry to hear about your achillies. Have you had it seen to by physio yet, it's a good idea to get a proper dignosis/find out what the problem is? I hope you don't get too frustrated -maybe you can still do some cross-training to get yourself out the house, like swimming, cycling, etc.

Hi again
Feel really in the doldrums today :( Can you recommend a physio to go to please? I went to the gym last night but didn't really know which machines were safe for me to use, so I did the cross trainer & the rowing machine. It's still hurting since the time trial, but not quite as bad now, although still slightly limping :(

Sorry to hear about your achillies Diane. As this is one of the many injuries I have had in the past I may as well give you my thoughts on it. First of all forget going to a physio if you are sure that it is your achillies, waste of time and money!!.
First thing to do is rest - this solves 90% + of all injuries. Then the bit that might hurt, get a knife and cut down the backs of your trainers, this is what caused the problem in the first place.
The exercise to do is to stand on a step (stair) half way and let your feet GENTLY drop down, you will feel it doing good. And finally the best bit ............................................................................... Get a good bottle of red wine and relax!!.
Hope that this helps,

Pete.

-I'm no expert on achillies injuries, but I would seek out the correct advice from someone trained to accurately diagnose running injuries -they will be able to advise how to most effectively treat the injury, through changes to shoes and orthotics, training practice and surface, biomechanics, stretching and strengthening exercises and specific treatment. Expensive maybe, but worth every penny...and hopefully they will confirm that you can fix the problem with wine.

Ah thanks Guys! Can't believe how quickly you can become depressed from not running! I've had my trainers for a couple of months and not had any problems with them, so I'm pretty sure I injured my achilles at circuits to begin with, then made it worse with the time trial. Paul Maxwell has also given me good advice, so I shall try and get this sorted out. I really want to get some good winter training in before we go off to NZ. I am thinking positively today :)

If you have only had the shoe a couple of months then it does sound like a straight forward case. Its worth trying my advice first before you waste tons of money. There are so many so called experts out there, most are quacks.
Orthotics should be seen as the last resort as there can cause other problems.
Still what do I know??!!.
