That does look a good race, bit of a pretentious name but never mind. A lot of climbing for 13 miles and a tough finish.

Agreed, a poor name -according to Lakes Runner, the original plan was to create an 'Eskdale Horseshoe' -which would have been a similar race but with a start/finish somewhere around the youth hostel in Eskdale, but were unable to obtain permission for sufficient parking.

Interestingly Nortumberland Fell Runners have selected it as race 6/11 in their 11-race fell championship this year...37 runners ran the minimum of 3 counters in their championship last season.

Talking of championships....I see in The Fellrunner that it is being proposed to change the Britsh Championships next year to just 3 races, one of each distance to make it more competative. Not a good option I think but I do agree with making any championship more competative :-)

The following is taken from the dark Peak website...

"...thinking about the UKA News item, on P9 (The Fellrunner). The introduction of three one-off races for the British Champonships. At the moment this doesn’t appeal to me at all, I’d prefer the step forwards of 5-year age groups and a V50 Team Championship to increase participation."

I think the guy has a point -we should be more imaginative in terms of extra incentives to attract runners who might be just as apathetic about running 3 champs races as 6.

From my point of view, as 4 of the English champs races this year are British counters too, this makes it easier to compete in both.
