Weasdale Horseshoe - 22nd August 2009

As part of the Ravenstonedale Show the Weasdale Horseshoe fell race has attracted good sized fields since it was awarded English Championship status in 2007.

The route is mostly grass and is very runnable with few steep inclines. The descent from the final checkpoint allows for some top speeds as it goes (on and on) back to the showfield. It also has the bonus of an uphill finish! The course totals 8 miles and includes 2000' of ascent.

Putting paid to any theories of tapering for or recovering from races, the prolific Colin Valentine was using this race as a warm-up for Sedbergh (see below) the following day. Such a volume of racing doesn't seem to affect his performances. Colin finished 21st overall in 73:36.

The other Keswick runner taking part was Debbie Thompson who swept up a number of category prizes finishing second lady overall (84:37), first FV40 and first FV50. Well done!
