old crown round - record
don't suppose anyone knows the record for the old crown round - (Carrock Gt Cockup Skiddaw Blencathra - 18M 5,700') - Seem to think it's around the 3 hr 20 mark. Richard Unwin had it at one time - does this still stand. No-one in the old crown seemed to know. I had a jog round last wednesday evening in 3 27 though that was fairly steady. A couple of good distance runners pushing the pace should be able to get close to the 3 10 areas without much ado.

Last time i was in the old crown, there was a logbook or somesuch, on the mantlepiece, where people had recorded their times, and any comments -lots ot 5hr+ walkers times and a few faster ones I seem to remember.
Not sure about the record for the old round but this year will see the inaugural "new" route taking in High Pike as an additional summit:

It will be interesting to see the fastest time on the day.
reckon high pike will add about 10 mins tops - practically run past the top.
After this I took the reverse of the fellside race route - ie over knott, which avoids the marsh. The more direct line passes to the right of the marsh but could be problematic to maintain sufficient progress.
Less friendly is "The Old Crown Round", after which the pub in Hesket Newmarket is named. This "sporting event" challenges those fit enough to ascend four local fells, Skiddaw, Blencathra, Carrock and Great Cockup, in any order, inside 20hrs. The current record is 3hrs 45mins.

3 hrs 27 is the new record, then?
