That's Lyth 24 miles 5,500' Sunday 27th January

Whilst many of you were sleeping off hangovers the day after the Awards Dinner some of us were knee deep in mud and slush.

This event is one of many organised by the Long Distance Walkers Assoc in Cumbria. Most of the 350 who turned up in Kendal to start were runners though. Some were fell runners, some were road runners and some were Ultra types with all manner of things strapped about their person.

The route goes out of Kendal over Cunswick Scar to the first refreshment stop in Crosthwaite then along the length of Whitbarrow Scar to Witherslack Village Hall. After a run along the bottom of White Scar cliffs the route crosses the pan-flat Lyth valley to the last stop in somebody's garage at Levens. The last climb over the day up Scout Scar leads back to Kendal on wobbly legs.

Technically it isn't a race and no results are published but for the record Rachel and I finished inside 4.5hrs. In hindsight the Crosby Commoner the day before wasn't the best preparation!

If you are interested there are plenty more events on their website http://www.ldwa.org.uk/ The next local one being 2nd March covering 21 miles from Braithwaite to Rosthwaite and back.
