Langdale Horseshoe –Saturday 10th October

The final counter in the both the English Championship and Lakeland Classics Trophy, a strong field contested this year’s Langdale on Saturday. With the other long-counter in this year’s English Championship being the Wasdale Horseshoe, the Langdale was always going to be a keenly contested race. Competition at the front end of the field was fierce with the top five runners across the line all within 20 seconds of each other. Andy Styan’s 1977 record of 1:55:03 is safe for another year -first was Simon Booth (Borrowdale) in 2:05:02 with first woman Jane Reedy (Ambleside) in 2:33:14.

Eight Keswick Athletic Club members tested themselves over the 14m/4000’ horseshoe. The cloud was down and some route choices were closer to the optimum than others, while some entailed greater than 14m/4000’ of distance and ascent than others! Well done to all, some good times on a hard race.

Craig Smith 2:41:32 (78th)
