Fair weather conditions prevailed for this popular race around the Kentmere valley at the weekend. The course is an excellent horseshoe taking in the summits of Ill Bell, High Street and Kentmere Pike with a long and flat run-in at the end to test weary legs. The route is 12 miles long with 3300 feet of ascent but is deceptively fast despite the climbing involved.
Although many fell-runners were recovering from Wasdale there were still 238 competitors taking part and Craig Roberts of Kendal was the overall victor in 1:34:30. Craig was also the first V40 & V45 beating Jon Deagan of Ambleside by just under a minute. The first lady was Suzanne Budgette of Horwich (1:57:12) who ensured a good day for the veterans as she was also first V40 & V45.
For Keswick, Will Veitch was the first home in 25th (1:48:19) with Craig Smith a couple of minutes behind in 33rd (1:50:56). John Beetham was 45th (1:55:46) and Allan Buckley (211th, 2:34:33) was third V65.
There was only one lady out representing the Club and Sheelagh King ran well to finish 172nd overall (2:21:00).
