Outerside Race Route

Just to clarify some aspects of this new course. If your out going over the route today for a reccie look for the small cairn (there is only one) on Stonycroft track to find the path up to Barrow Door. Although the map emailed round shows a diagnol line, it actually if anything slants the other way (this was done last minute) so don`t be surprised if you start running in the opposite direction to the map.
From Stilend to Outerside there are two fairly clear route choices. Although not an awful lot between them one of them is the better line....?
This course is still a challenging and tough run and not be taken lightly so be prepared.
I hope you can make it for tommorows race, it should be a clear day so will make for some nice running.
Allan Buckley and I both agreed that this would make a nice mid week evening run.............
See you all tomorrow.
John.

Did anyone else spot the Keswick AC runner who was pictured in Athletics Weekly last month (competing in the National XC Champs in Sunderland)?

Good for him -if anyone deserves to get his mug in AW lately it's Ian as he's been grafting hard this winter, and despite mud/snow/mud not being his best surface, he turned out for the club at the National where he surprised even himself by his performance. Ian went on to smash out a useful 1:16:31 on the hilly Haweswater marathon a week later, on his debut over the half marathon distance -not too shabby Ian, well done.

The photo has also been used to illustrate an article "5 steps to National glory" on the AW website here.

The next session is an elite athlete interview with Helen Clitheroe on Weds 20th April.  Pre-Booking for this is advised.  You can book and pay at tomorrow’s event.

Many thanks.

InterCounty XC Champs

I had the privilege of being the Cumbria Women’s Team Manager for the Inter-County Cross Country Championship at Cofton Park Birmingham on Saturday.  Our Cumbrian Squad consisted of Sarah Tunstall 17th, Clare McKeown 104th, Ruth Hetherington 155th, Rhiannon Silson 190th, Kath Aubrey 196th, Emma McKnespiey 255th and Hazel Davies 266th.  Cumbria finished 21st from 33 teams and although a modest finish is a stepping stone on which to build.  It’s the first time we’ve had a squad in four years.  I was also selected for the squad but unfortunately had to withdraw due to injury.

Congratulations also to Katy Livesey and Ella Jackson who are both Keswick AC Members and coached by myself and Hazel and Martin Sluce at Cockermouth School.  They had a last minute call up to represent the U13 Girls and now have their first ‘County’ vest.

Steve Hebblethwaite was the Men's team manager and also competed finishing 200th, not his best run of late but still crucially counting for the squad.

The event was televised by Sky TV and the outright winners were Louise Damen of Hampshire and Frank Tickner of Avon and Somerset in the men’s event.  Full results can be seen here:

Change to Club Road Championship 2013

Due to the increased demand that will be placed on the club membership, for volunteers and helpers for the Derwentwater 10 race (which this year has a new organising committee) we have decided not to use the race in the 2013 Club Road Championship.

The Derwent AC organised Cumberland Ale 10, on Sunday 8th September will now be used instead. This local race has not been used in the Road Championship for a few years and should provide some great racing.

Please note also the date of the Round The Houses race, Tuesday 23rd April.

A reminder of those races for your diary:
